I'm trying to find a reasonably-priced LER scope for my Swedish Mauser m96. Needing at least a 4x or so, I don't see much out there under say $260. Am I missing something? Do I HAVE to pay that much? All help appreciated.... :?:

Why do you want a Long Eye Relief scope for that rifle? I am not very familiar with that rifle. What cartridge is it and where do you mount the scope?

If it is the type of rifle that requires the scope to be mount unsusually far beyond the action, then I understand your needing an LER scope. However, before I (or anyone else) makes any suggestions, please tell us more about your rifle.

I believe he has an M96 Swedish 6.5x55mm Mauser long rifle. Because of requirements for drilling and taping a receiver mount and problems with mauser bolt (straight) and safety lever clearences, he is looking for a scout scope, mounted on the rear sight base (B-Square Mount), and will probably need somewhere around a 12-15 inch eye relief. Hope this clears up the issue.

For about $260 you should look into the scopes made by Bushnell and Burris. In fact, I think that Nikon also makes a LER scope. All three of these manufacturers should give you a solid value in a LER scope.

Hey Barrika,

I am familiar with what you are trying to accomplish and I say better tread lightly and cautiously! I don't believe there is a decent scout scope mount currently available that you will be satisfied with. If you frequent the Parallax C&R Site for Swedish Mausers they may have more up-to-date info (I know of one other mount not yet on the market). I went with a MOJO Phase III Peep Sight System that is a whole lot cheaper $45) and works great, and it doesn't screw up your collector value! Just my feelings!

LER Scopes and mounts

The Burris Scout Scope at $180 +/- is a good choice.
Leupold also makes an excellent Scout Scope, but priced at $240 +/-. Ashely Outdoors makes a decent Scout base that is installed with AcraGlas. They make nice aperture sights also.

For LER on a rifle, it's best to stick with 3X or less.
