I am looking for posts and links that discuss the history and different models from the past forbreak-open single shot rifles. I've found the BOSS group on google groups. These guns are far more common than I thought. Any help or a list of models etc. would be appreciated.

 Oh dear your set yourself a task that's for sure. In Europe including the UK these break action rifles were very popular and still are in Europe Blaser and Chapuis are two that I can thing of that still make high quality break action single shot rifles. Firms like Purdy, Holland & Holland, Cogewell & Harrison, Greener all made singel shot break actions although mostly in lighter calibres and chambering. A lot of rook rifles were made this way.

I must admit that research last night was an eye opener. I've narrowed my search to weapons that are possible to acquire and affordable (always a subjective value but I consider the Ruger #1 as the upper limit in price) for myself here in Canada.

I have found references to the Handi-rifle, Savage Model 219, TCR 83/87, Brno ZBK 110, and Mossberg Ssi One. Edit: just found the Baikal break open as well.

Anyone who could add to this list for weapons available in North America and cheaper than my Jeep please do so. The rest of the rifles found in this class are either rare and/or far too expensive.

Well, how cheap is your jeep? The BRNO Effect is a very nice break open for about $1350 new wholesale and you probably won't find any used ones as yet.
