Just for what its' worth, I've found that the X bullet that Barnes makes for the .45-70 is the best shooting bullet to date in my Marlin 1895. Yes, the copper fouling is fairly bad, but the bullet is really accurate... I used H4198 powder... Dave

Marlin 1895 and Barnes XFN 300 grain bullet

:D I am a fan of the Barnes Original 300s for my 1886 Winchester 45-70 and 45-90 rifles. These bullets can be driven at very high velocity, with great accuracy. Maybe I'll give the XFN a try, too.
