Montana Bullet works 45, CUSTOM, 330GR, HP-GC Loads for 45/70? I load for a Marlin Guide Gun, a Ruger #3 and an Italian Sharps replica. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Unfortunately the bullet is made with a heat treated alloy to a BHN of 22. If it expands (depends on impact velocity and medium) the front end (expansion petals) will blow or beak off very quickly. Penetration after that would be questionable given the remaining retained bullet weight.

Should have been cast of 16-1 alloy. Even then the velocity should be kept under 1500 fps due to that gaping HP. I'd spend my money on another bullet, especially at $33 per 50.

Western has the original 457122 Gould bullet for $12 per 50 plus shipping, personally I'd order them as cast and lube myself with liquid Alox, .458" is too small for my 45-70s, .459"-.460" work well.

you would be better off going to the bull shop( https://bullshop.weebly.com/-45-caliber-cast-bullets.html ). he will cast you anything you want. 40:1, 20:1, 16:1

montana is a great company, i buy them. but i'd buy bull shop's $30/100 boolits(30:1) over montana $33/50 boolits(lyman #2) every day and twicted on sunday.

The Bull Shop doesn't cast with just any alloy for free. There's as much as a 50% increase in cost for some alloys like 20:1. I also find their ordering system archaic and communication with them has always been interesting to say the least. Somedays I think they don't have enough ventilation inside the shop...

Thanks, Dinny
