I have an old Mossberg that I got in the 70s. As I remember it didn't cost much, about $35 or $40.
I just carried it around as a truck gun for a while, and then it has just set in the safe for the last 20 or so years.
I hear alot of praise for the old Mossbergs on here, so I got it out and checked it out. It says "New Haven" by Mossberg .740 T 22Magnum wmr on the barrel. The wood is very nice, kind of tiger striped the entire length of the stock.
I used to shoot alot of ground squirells and jack rabbits with it, and as I remember it was pretty accurate.
Does anyone know anything about these guns? Can anything be done about the 70 lb. trigger.
I'm sure you folks know if any one does, so lets hear it.
Thanks, Charlie

Have the Mossberg New Haven in .22 short, long, long rifle. had since about 1960. Still functions great if I keep the extractor clean. I use it for ground squirrels in my backyard with Super Aquilas and CB shorts. Gonna let my grand daughter start shooting it this summer. Wouldn't get rid of it for anything. First gun I ever had.

You can fix the trigger on the older marlins by removing the trigger and smoothing out the two sides plus the insides of the trigger posts. You will not lots of machining marks. It doesn't take much to smooth it out so be careful. You can also replace the trigger spring with that of a papermate pen or cut one loop off.

Did you mean Mossberg's?

Ya they are nice old guns. And a pretty good value. I was thinking about a CZ but think I'll see if I can fix the old girl up. I don't need benchrest accuracy, just a accurate squirell gun. (With a halfway decent trigger). :)
Thanks guys, Charlie

Very similar rifle to my old Mossberg 640KD Chuckster, also in .22 Magnum. It took me awhile to find the ammo it really liked - the Winchester Dynapoint Magnums (my Marlin prefers the CCI Maximags!). Stiff trigger, but I learned to live with it. Different from the Marlin triggers (which I have lightened), I haven't tried to do any trigger work on it yet.

Mossbergs rifles

RimfireCentral.com has a section of Mossbergs. You should be able to get any question answered there. I have three Mossberg 22 lr that I enjoy shooting. My main jack rabbit hunting rifle is a Marlin 25N with a basix trigger.
