Mystery of dead man and his 1,200 guns deepens.

So I wonder how the media will follow this. They seem a bit hysterical that a guy had a lot of guns. And LOTS of ammo. No indications of misuse or illegality.

He sounds a little odd to me.

What really caught my attention is the photo of the big pile of guns. Somehow I doubt that is how he stored them, from other reading; and I suspect the cops are piling them up roughly, possibly damaging them in a big hurry. And if there is any legitimate heir, what to do you bet it will be very very hard for that person to get the guns returned?

".......... Once Los Angeles police were called, they traced the dead man inside the vehicle to a town house down the street. There, investigators found roughly two tons of ammunition and more than 1,200 high-end pistols, shotguns and rifles. The cache of firearms and ammunition was so large that it took police days to remove several truckloads from the canyon home."

"................................... On Tuesday, police were trying to piece together how the dead man ended up inside the abandoned vehicle and determine why he had so many weapons. "

"........................... But questions remained about why the man had amassed so many weapons. On Tuesday, police were still performing background checks on the man's firearms."We don't think the weapons are illegal. We are taking them for public safety," said Sgt. David Craig of the LAPD's gang and narcotics division. He said investigators removed the weapons to ensure the ammunition and guns wouldn't be stolen from the home. David Dwyer, president of the Palisades Homeowner Assn. #4, said no signs of hoarding, guns or ammunition were found during 2011 repairs in the town house. "There were no guns or odd items that'd say we have a collector here," he said." .............

I don't understand why a large number of "high end" firearms would not be a collection? Sounds like one to me tho I know a lot of collectors specialize and keep strict records etc.

Here's a guy's collection, IMO, and look how the police have just piled stuff with no regard to potential damage to guns and values.

Here is a link to a photo that got me going: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fassets.nydailynews.com%2Fpolopoly_fs%2F1.2298535.1437456277!%2Fimg%2FhttpImage%2Fimage.jpg_gen%2Fderivatives%2Farticle_635%2Fpalisades-guns.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nydailynews.com%2Fnews%2Fnational%2Fdecomposing-la-man-1-200-guns-tons-ammo-home-article-1.2298538&docid=E3f6sUAAjuomLM&tbnid=uOkcbRisO66GhM%3A&w=635&h=630&ei=G3CwVcfSMYfdoASdlJqQDQ&ved=0CAMQxiAwAWoVChMIh8yR1bfwxgIVhy6ICh0digbS&iact=c

That "pile" of guns shows a sincere disrespect for 1.) the guns and 2.) other's property. Would any one of us, given the task of inventory, have treated this man's belongings, and especially those guns, in a like manner? I say, no, we would not and we would find a way to respect the guns.

A couple of folks have sent us links to the investigation of Jeffrey Alan Lash who had amassed more than 1200 firearms and tons of ammunition – so much that it took law enforcement more than three days to remove it all from his home. He also had 14 cars registered in his name, of which police have only recovered eight so far, stashed around the city. He told his girlfriend of 17 years that he was a secret squirrel and that he was constantly being followed.

Back on July 4th, while in a shopping center parking lot, Lash felt ill (probably because he was in the late stages of cancer) and refused to allow his girlfriend to take him to a hospital, so while she tried to treat his symptoms, Lash expired, but not before he told her to abandon his body in the car because the folks who had been following him would recover it. So she went to Seattle for ten days. When she got back, his body was still in the car and he was decomposing in the California heat, so she called the police.

Obama era governments have no concern for your property, health or your life.
The heirs will want to sue to recover willful damage to this estate.
No attorney will take the case.

I'm 75. I have a very badly damaged heart, a paralyzed left diaphram and a significantly (military) damaged lower back. Over the last few years on medical forms I've repeatedly been asked if I keep firearms in my home. Is lying a mortal sin?

That is not lying. The constitution [5th amend] sez we dont have to incriminate ourselves. Any LEO
that doesn't believe that is a renegade outlaw. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution,
including the Bill of Rights are the revealed word of God. Your soul is not in jeopardy.

A big Amen! to that brother. And that's from a retired LEO.
