Have any of you shooters shot the New England 22 Hornet. I have the 223 and love it, thinking about getting a Hornet barrell for it. I have a Hornet by another US. Manufacture and it leaves a lot to be desired, can't get a decent group at 50 yards yet, still working on it but getting flustrated. Any info would be appreciated.

THANKS

I have the short (20 inch) superlite Hornet. It is a good shooter. So far I have got decent groups at fifty yards, and with a little load development I am sure I can hit 1 inch at 100 yards. The barrel is REALLY lite, no where near as big around as the standard 22 inch barrels.

My Handi started life as a 243. Before scoping it I sent it off for 22 Hornet and 223 barrels. Haven't shot the 223 much (three rounds  ) but the 243 and Hornet shoot great.

If you want a light gun to pack on walks or for long outings get the superlite. Otherwise get the standard, as it will probably be more accurate and maybe a small increase in velocity.

Good Luck!!!

NEF 22 Hornet

I have the SB2 Handi-Rifle in 22 hornet, .223 and 30-06. The Hornet barrel was the best shooter out of the box with factory loads. The .223 was the worst. I get 1" to 2" groups at 100 yrds with the Hornet and I'm sure I can work up some loads that will do much better. I bought and older NEF with a 12 gauge barrel at a gun show for $30.00 and fitted the hornet barrel to it (yes folks you can do it yourself). It's become my farm rifle and goes just about everywhere with me. Great for varmits and wild dogs after my livestock.

Hey,
New member here. I have a NEF 22 Hornet. I shoot the Hornady 35 gr. V-Max and Win 296. I get very good vel. and I won't post the groups in fear of much doubting by other posters. Email me and I'll give you ALL the facts.

Have you guys noticed your NEF's to be throated REALLY deep or is it just mine? I picked one up used, unfired last week and a scope base is due to arrive in the next day or two so I can't comment on accuracy yet.

I chrono'ed some mollied Hornady 50gr SX bullets over 9.3 of 2400 powder and got 2350 or so outta them. They were loaded 1.85" if I remember right. Sound right to you guys?

Thanks
