Hello,

Just thought I should say something. I recently had to register because I could no longer view the forum without doing so, but there's nothing wrong with that! Anyways, this seems like a pretty decent group of people on this site with a nice amount of information.

I have been wanting to get an Encore for the last couple months. I would like to get an Encore pistol in .243 to hunt deer here in Indiana. My coyote gun is a .243 so I figured why not? I would like to know (and I know recoil is different for everyone) how much a .243, .270, or .308 15" pistol kicks(no muzzlebreaks). Those are my other 2 choices if I didn't get the .243. Is it worse than a 44 mag for a 308 or is it more like a 41 or 357 etc. I don't have any access to any Encores to test it out myself so I will have to go with ya'lls input. Thanks for any replies ahead of time.

recoil level

Varm.101, I shoot a .309jdj contender without a brake and do not find it unpleasant in any way. When you shoot it at an animal you don't even feel it. At least it is that way for me(same for a .44mag.). I may be wrong, but I don't see where the .308 encore(heavier) should be much different. Pat
PS- welcome aboard. :D

.243 recoil

I have a 15 " Encore in .243 , just love it.. Great off of the truck on a sand bag or from an old Hoppe,s rest . Recoil is no prob, but for plinking muffs are needed. Also have 20 Tac. on another frame . It can get to be an addiction to these guns. Oh well. Good shooting.

my dad has a 243 in an encore. a real pussycat to shoot. about the same as my 223 contender. like shooting light 38 specials out of a medium frame revolver with a six inch barrel, only louder.

Welcome Varmint101. Yes, it is a great bunch here. Already a couple of good replies to your question, so I'll just add that if I can ever be of help, just let me know.

Hi varmit101. I have a 270 encore with 15" barrel the recoil is not near as bad as you would think. I enjoy shooting it more than my 44 mag. The muzzle blast is a little on the loud side. Good luck in your selection.

i have the 15" 7-08 encore. when i first got it, i was a little surprised at the muzzle jump. kinnda puts a 12x scope in your face if you crank up the power. there's no pain involved and it doesn't seem to push straight back. it just jumps a little, and thats not bad after you put a few rounds down range. that .243 should be great. make sure you wear hearing protection. :D

:D Hey thanks! I appreciate all the quick replies. I'm still saving up for the whole rig and all, but I don't need it until November, but I'll get one in the next couple months so I can practice. It'd be silly to get one right before season without any practice. I also want to get the rifle 209x50 barrel, too. I've heard nothing but good things about those muzzleloaders and always about being really accurate. Again thanks for the replies.

hearing protection

Hey now that I think about it, what type of hearing protection do you all use when hunting if any? Does anyone use the Walker's Game Ear 1, or 2 or does anyone use the Peltor Tact. 6? Both options I've been thinking about. thanks
