I've heard a lot about coyote hunting and would really like to give it a try. I'm wondering what kind of setup I need to get started. I have all the camo for spring turkey hunting and a selection of weapons to choose from Im just wanting to know what other gear i need. Keep in mind I live and hunt in north western PA, mostly wooded areas and not many farms or fields.

you're halfway there...

Just my humble opinion but if you're an avid turkey hunter, you know a lot of tricks for hunting coyotes. You already know how to play the wind, to set up against trees or other objects to break up your outline, and to blend into your surroundings with camo. I think now you just need to work with some calls (an area you probably have experience in too) and learn some vocalizations. I'd just suggest spending an evening looking through this forum and reading. You'll learn a bunch. Otherwise, go get a video tape from someone like Randy Anderson ("Calling all Coyotes" or "The Vermintors") or Sceery's tapes. They offer some pretty good basics on vocalizations and distress calling. But to me, half the fun was learning by trial and error. It's a lot of fun so good luck...

Try not to get discouraged too early - PA is one of the states that coyotes are pretty hard to come by. Might be better to try starting with the red fox in your area while you learn the ropes of predator calling. Higher numbers and much easier to call in to hold your interest. Just a thought...

At this time of year, you probably want to concentrate on howling. They're in mating season now and they're looking to hook up. I use a howler from E.L.K. They also have some pretty good videos to show you what you should sound like. The first thing to remember is that coyotes have the best sense of smell and the best hearing around so start your calling soft and get invisible.
