I was sitting at the base of a oak tree, a little crick about 10 feet to my right. My rifle was propped up on a Y stick between my legs. Had a cup of coffee in my hand. I was watching the hollow below me.

A very nice 8 point buck walked up between me and the crick. About 5 feet away. He kinda put his head down and nose out toward me.

I set down the coffee, grabbed my rifle, held it out like a pistol, and shot him.

OK, What is the closest shot you have taken

I took a wounded black bear at about five yards with my 30/06.He was snapping and roaring and he had very bad breath .Nearly crapped myself when I ran out of bullets..Couldnt get my danged legs to move to run either..Finally got them going and ran like **** back to the road.Went back into the bush with about 30 shells but he was dead when I got back ..Most scared I have ever been..And he really did have bad breath..It was about 9;00 am so maybey it was morning breath,, lol

I was using myM-1 for a deer rifle for the first time. I was watching a 9 point 200yds. away.He turned and started loping my way. I was in a ground blind. He jumped the fence 30 ft. away & walked right by me. He was less than 10 ft. from the muzzle when I shot using 150gr. Rem. cor-locs. One shot behind the shoulder did the work. He's on the living room wall now. It all happened quickly or I swear I would've pulled out my gov't model & used it.

the closest shot i ever took was less than 5 feet. after grunting the deer walked up and stood underneath my stand. he looked over the entire feild but never saw me. it is an amazing rush to take one at long range but it is just as exillerating to take one at extremely close range without them knowing you are there.

30 yds with a gun. 10 yds with a bow. I have passed on some even closer for one reson or another. Had one forkhorn walk past at about 10ft. with me on the ground also instead of in a tree. Now thats cool. The club I was on had a 4 point on one side rule.

I would say that the closest shot that I could have taken was under my deer stand which was about 7 feet away, but the closest shot that I have taken is about 45 yards.

:biggun: I shot an 8 pt that droped within 3 ft of the base of the tree I was in. Shot a bear at 15 ft. I've shot at least ten deer within 10 yards with the shotgun.

Whitetail and Moose

Whitetail - 5-6 feet, walked up on him bedded down and shot him in the back of the head with the Contender.

Whitetail - 10 feet of so, treestand with shotgun and pistol.

Whitetail - bow, I actually could not raise the bow because the arrow would have hit the deer as I raised the bow. NO BS guys! He eventually walked away and I shot him from about 45 paces.

Moose - 9 yards.

Isn't hunting fun!

Closest was a small buck with a shotgun and slugs. The muzzle was just inches from his neck as he was in the air. Came from under a cedar on the edge of a crick.. He never saw me til he was in the air. I pointed the old M12 and pulled the trigger as he flew pat, he colapsed as he landed. The slug had broken his neck and the flash curled the hair around the entry wound. The second was another small buck.. I was watching a scrape but the wind forced me to a stand from which I couldn't see the scrape. It snowed the night before and I sat under a cedar to keep from sitting in the snow. A small buck came walking by, he was more interested in the buck that we both could hear working the brush around the scrape. He was probably 3-4 feet from the muzzle when I shot him. He was about to get down wind and the jig would have been up anyway... Later saw the big boy, he spooked and ran when I put my coat back on after field dressing the smaller buck...He was less than 75 yards away and had probably watched the whole field dressing process..
PS-- sorry I forgot the last was with a 243 win in the M700 remington

5 feet - caribou

Thought I put down a caribou at over 250 yds. with my 300 Win. As I got near, something made me wary so I came up from behind a gave it a poke w the gun. It jumped and spun to face me. I was one surprised pup staring at a full caribou rack for 2 secs! Sighted down the barrel but only took out its jaw at about 5 ft. Luckily I put it down at about 20 yds when it ran straight away from me - shot between the shoulder blades. Turned out I'd grazed the breast bone on my long shot and must have knocked the wind out of the animal. The killing shot is the only time I've made running shot on an animal - glad it connected.
