I have a omega with 1 in 28 twist that I want to shoot patch and ball with using goex bp. I'm planning on 80 grains of powder. Has anyone used an omega or a fast twist rate for patch and ball? I want to use it on whitetail within 100 yards.

<sigh>

This one comes up fairly often...do a search... but the answer is pretty much the same. 1-28 is too fast a twist for RBs. Some guns with that twist will shoot them ok with very light charges of powder, most will not. And every oncet inna great while sumwun will post that they are getting accuracy from a 1-28 twist with RBs and heavy loads... I've yet to see it happen in person though...not sayin' it don't happen, but I ain't seen it. ???

Bottom line: It's unlikely that you will get good enuff accuracy from that twist fer deer out to 100. You MIGHT, but very unlikely.

If I couldn't shoot it 100 yards, do you think I could make it 50? Do they shoot well to a point then fly off or they just don't shoot period. I shot patch and balls out of it before. It shocked me how well it did. I was shooting 50 yards, but I didn't do it enough to know if I just got lucky or what. I can't find time while it's still light out for any range time for a couple weeks.

I have a cva bobcat too. 1 in 48" How would that shoot patch and ball or conicals? I want to use goex ffg powder. Could anyone recommend some loads. I am just worried that with the #11 caps, the gun would fail to fire as I watch my deer run off.

Thanks again

I have slain the deer and hogs with my muzzleloaders with Goex ffg and #11 caps. Never had a misfire.
Remember, #11 caps are what make cap and ball pistols go bang, many a man has bet his life on the reliability of these caps, and won.

Clean your rifle real well, clean all around the inside of the drum with pipe cleaners, get all the oil out, and you should have no problem with your #11 caps.

Don't waste your time. Buy TC Cheap Shot lead bullets and sabots, they sell for $6-$8/20. Or, you can buy bulk bullets and sabots separately. Less expensive would be the Hornady XTP. Or, you can buy bulk sabots and cast your own bullets in molds that produce 240-250 grain bullets. Either way, you will save time and money.
