No shots fired... only 2 spoonies came by/through the blind and presented a shot.

The guy who manages the club/property took out the rice checks in 2 blinds and made the blinds islands. Considering it's the only island in the whole field every duck who comes around it will stare at that island. Plus the water in the check was stagnent and stinky instead of fresh.

Needless to say it was dissapointing. I should have gone deer hunting I guess.

Not a good way to start the year for you. Sorry to hear the bad news. Just remember it is still very early and there are plenty out there for next time.

Our season opens on Saturday for our Zone 1. We are supposed to get our first big cold front in tomorrow with a lot of rain. I hope it pushes some ducks down and they hold until Saturday.

The season I am waiting for does not start for two weeks, it is Zone 2 which is most of the state and a majority of the water.

I didn't do much better, but I did leave with a Gadwall. It was looking good at first on Saturday. Lots of ducks flying, had a flock of ten or so mallards land in the decoys and swim around for a while about 10 minutes before shooting time. The same thing with some teal. Then shooting time started and this gaddy came in and after that nothing else flew.

In all fairness it was likely my fault as I had to leave after about 45 minutes due to a church obligation.

It was sure awesome to see the ducks landing and quacking in the decs. It sure gets the blood pumping again after a long drought of no duck seasons.

I look forward to a great season.
