I picked up a can of AA 3100 since it was $8 or $10 cheaper than other brands. I want to use it in 30-06 and 300 Win Mag but looking at the load data it clearly is different from my favorite IMR 4831 and standby H4831. Anybody care to share their opinions of this powder and best applications?

Thanks :

Opinions of Accurate 3100 for '06 and 300 W

It ought to work well in the 300 Mag, especially with over 200gr. bullets. It's on the slow side for the '06, but should be useful for the real heavyweights, 220gr.+ . It also makes a dandy powder for cast bullet shooting in smaller cases as well, full charges without too much speed and very good accuracy.

Dand, I've been using AA3100 since its introduction. It has performed superbly in my rifles. Nobady called it pretty close on best uses although he didn't mention that the more overbore the cartridge, the better the application. It is my favorite powder for the 280 Rem, 270 Win, and 243 Win. The first load I ever fired in my 300 H&H M721 tried to stack Hornady 180 gr bullets on top of each other, so I never tried a second load. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in the '06 if I wasn't trying to squeeze all the fps out of the load I could get. The burning rates and applications are much closer to the 4831's than you think.

I have not use 3100 in either of the two cartridges you mentioned but it is the best powder I have found in my 270 with a 130gr BT bullet. I wish it was still $8 cheaper here. It has went up to within a couple of bucks of the other powders here.

thanks folks

I bought it to make 30-06 pracitce loads for a newby big game hunter. Sounds like it will work fine. I'll probably load basic 165 and 180 gr loads for this guy. He just needs to get a reasonably accurat load to develop his riflery skills. Saving a few $ helps a lot. Wish that store had more of that powder - I got the last can.

It should work okay in the '06 with bullets from 125 to 225 grains in weight.

In the .300 Win, it will work with bullets in the 110 to 240 grain weights.

However, I didn't find it the most accurate in any loading.
