Ive seen on forums where people have painted water traps. I dont think I would paint any trap that might be used to catch coyote or fox. I use Newts formula 1 and have been having great luck with it on my water line.

can i use rustoleum on my connies &footholds? i used gas dip on my traps and didn't get much .this was my first year trapping .
