I took two roosters today. While cleaning them I noticed one had a darker/redder meat color than the other, which looked more like the color of a chicken breast. They're stocked birds, so I'm sure they're eating the same feed. Any ideas as to why the difference in color?

The one that was darker might have been a scratch bird. That is one that was released from a previous hunt and not taken. These birds then live wild till they are taken. They run around as much as a regular wild bird and can be a little darker. I like to go to the club after a big corporate shindig and take the birds they missed or didn't scare up. A lot of clubs and preserves do release a fair number of extra birds each year to compensate for ones that might run off or other problems as well.
