We tried to sight in my sons new Rossi 30-06 singleshot today and though accuracy was acceptable we had 20% missfires. We are not sure if the problems were the gun or the Ammo and will try another brand. Has anyone experienced missfire problems with the center fire rifles?

The gunsmith at the store we bought it at suggested trying it with Federal ammunition which he said had softer primers. We bought a box and had no additional failures, but in a call to Rossi, I was told that the gun should work with all commercial ammunition, but they frequently need two boxes of ammunition shot through them before they shoot reliably.

Pull a bullet out of the brand that had misfires, dump the powder and fire just the primed brass. Then measure how much the primer is sticking out of the rear of the case. When the primer fires it pushes out against the breach and pushes the brass forward against the sholder, my guess it the chamber is a little deep and you are getting light fireing pin strikes. Any more than about .009 inches of primer above the case head is too much. Rossi also uses a transfer bar type of hammer/fireing pin action, yoiu need to pull the trigger all the way back each time you fire it or you will have light strikes also. Larry
