Just picked up a like new stainless 10" 22 match barrel for my contender. I tried blazer ammo in it with the barrel out it fails to chamber with the back of the round sticking out of the barrel by 1/8". I figured this was due to it being a "match" chamber with tighter tolerances. Took to my local shop today and all the ammo, including the high test remington match and federal premium match ammo do exactly the same thing.

Not owning a 22 "match" barrel before is this correct? Is closing the action suppose to force the bullet into the rifling? Doesn't sound right to me but like I said this is th first one I have owned.

Or does it sound like it is short chambered and needs to go back to TC?

Tthanks,
DonT

Yes thats how it works, I have a 22 standard barrel that does the same thing. Forces the nose of the bullet into the lands about 1/8". Sure is accurate! You will find with your match barrel that some ammo may not chamber due to tight tollerances. Don't try and use anything with a longer than normal case length such as Stingers. KN

My concern was it setting off the round if this is done since it is a rimfire round.. Guess this isn't a problem form the sounds of things...

Thanks

My .22 match barrel is the same way. My buddy has two - same thing. Between us, we have put over 2,000 rounds through these barrels. Never touched a round off closing the barrel.

Of course - there's always a first time !!

I would think a slow, easy "close" is much safer than a fast, snap "close" when a condition such as this exists.

Thanks folks. I am use to shooting centerfires out of my TC and they all chamber even with the back of the barrel. Only rimfires I have shot are semi-autos and revolvers so this seemed a little odd.

I am looking forward to shooting it. Have a near new Bushnell 3X9 I am planning on hanging on it and really looking forward to having some fun with it. From all I have heard it should be a shooter....
