Hello all, this is my first post here, you all have a very nice forum with a lot of useful information and I enjoy it greatly.

I have decided to try predator hunting here in northern Michigan, mostly coyotes. And I have been reading a lot of the posts on equipment and
techniques. I have ordered a .223 that hopefully will be in this afternoon. Also I have been reading a lot of the reviews on the different models of E-Callers, with the holidays around the corner and two little ones I am going to have to wait till after the first of the year to pick up one of those. So, I bought some tapes (rabbit, coyote/rabbit and woodpecker) and for now rigged up my old boom box for an E-Caller.

The question I have is on volume, since I have never hunted with a caller before, I was wondering how loud it should be. Or I guess a better question would be, when using a regular E-caller at what distance should a person be able hear it.

I ran a test with it and at half volume I could hear the rabbit distress clearly at 100 yards, now I figure a coyote can hear better than me so he should be able to hear it even farther. And after 5 or 10 minutes I could increase the volume to get the sound out farther. Does this sound like it should work?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Bill (MI)

-Coyotero, thanks for the info, will give it a shot this weekend and see how it goes. going to start low and go from there. Gun came in so I have to mount a scope on it toinight and hit the range first thing in the morning. then its woods time, we lost all our snow and its suppose to rain lightly tomorrow, but it beats working.

Thanks again, Bill

-Longwinters, what part of the UP?, I have done some camping in the Dead River area near Marquette, beautiful country up that way, I am in the northeast part of the lower. Good luck to you also on the coyotes.

Bill (MI), the Dead River is pretty close to home for me. BTW, start your e-caller at a low volume, just in case there are any takers nearby. You can then raise the volume if you get no response up close.
Longwinters, welcome to another Central UP hunter! MI VHNTR

Bill I am from the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area. This is 200 miles west of the bridge and on the Wisc. border. I am hoping to go out this weekend. But am not sure about coyotes or late deer season.

VM it is surprising that in a site like this there are several of us UP here. Makes me feel at home.

Longwinters, np on the letters, as I mix them up too. LOL! I've met and hunted with a couple of other UP callers and have had some good times doing so. Hopefully, a few more of them will show UP here. MI VHNTR
