Put one on layaway.NIB condition .308 caliber , not a mark on her.$ 275.00. Been reading, and I'm worried, I may have a stinker.I am a fanatic about rifle maintenence and I shoot ALOT.Cant hunt with it in Penn. so this one's a range queen for now. A 2-3000 round service life seems odd for an American semi auto when I can get 3 times that and more from a Chinese SKS! Assuming I keep her clean and dont shoot her hot is there anything I can do to extend service life?A very good looking and fine handling rifle I must admit, it would be a shame if the durability issue is real. I've read that a rifle was returned to Remington after being used in competition and the owner was told" It wasn't designed for that much shooting". Heck , my Marlin 336, which I got used 4 years ago , has had 3200 round put through her and still shoots sub 2 inch 200 yard groups. What are the issues with the 742 and am I worring too much about too little? Thanks for the help.

Hay good luck with the 742 I have one also and I suggest you shoot it you got the gun to enjoy right. And when the rail and bolt lock up you can have it converted to a pump then hunt there in PA with it. I have shot my gun some and though its not a tack driver I like the way it feels I have had no problems yet. An from the looks of my gun it hasn't seen much service. I may break it out next year and hunt with it I developed a handload for it and fired maybe around 100 rounds

Good Luck with it and keep us updated on the range results I'm curious on what it takes to wear one out
