Do you think a used, but looks like new, Remington 700 BDL 300 ultra mag with a Bushnell 3200 3-9x is a good buy at $699. I found one and I am interested in buying it. I just want to know if it is a good price. I think it is but I also think used gun prices around here are ridiculous compared to what my brother finds in Wyoming but to me seems like a reasonable price.

You can buy a new Remington 700 BDL off the rack for 699.........so your getting the scope, base and rings at zero dollars.

While it probably isn't a great price, it's certainly a fair price......

I bought one from Dick's for 409.97. Started out at 499.97, but with reward points and discounts and a little scratch got her down to 409.97. I think that's a little one the high side(699.00). Check out auction arms or gun brokers.

You are talking about $350 for the scope - mounted and bore sighted and probably $40 for the mounts.

I would say that with the price of the gun originally at $500 + FFL fee's and tax that you have found a very good deal.

If you do not want it - then go buy a new one and see how much you would spend.

How does somebody come up with a $699 price tag for a used gun?

Unless it is at a Gun Shop, $699 is an odd price to be paying for a used gun. Why not $700 or $675 ? Just about any rifle I heard of for sale on the aftermarket, is usually sold in $25 increments.. i.e. $625 or $650. $699 sounds like it could be retail book value. If that is the case, there is a whole lot of room for movement on the sellers part.

I think if it were me, I would be waiting to find one privately, which is where you can really save money.

Also, this is sort of the wrong time of year to let your desires run wild for something different.

Personally, I would not spend just under $700 for a used Ultra-Mag (too expensive to shoot). But I also think that in the not too distant future, used prices will be up there, or not less than 50% of new prices. So in the long run, maybe that price isn't too bad... who knows.

I sure wish I was in the scope business because if I could sell you Elite 3200s for $350, then I'd be able to retire in about 4 months.

The Elite 3200 in 3x-9x is about $200 at most stores.

One of my younguns bought one of these 2 years ago. I think he paid around $500 for it It came with a 4x leupold and shoots pretty good. Our local gun store gets a lot of them back for resale. Folks don't look at ammo prices and really have no idea of what kind of recoil these things have. I don't think the recoil is all that bad, but the noise this thing generates is unreal when shot off of the covered benches at our range. We've had guys stop shooting just to come see what the heck we're shooting.

If it's used, offer less, say $500 and see what they say. You may just walk out with a new toy!

I used to have a BDL 300 Ultra Mag. I ended up getting rid of it because it didn't shoot very well. I finally found that it like the 200gr Swift A-Frames Remington factory ammo at the end, but by then I was already set against that rifle. On a paper chart I love the 300 Ultra, but in real life it beat the heck out of me. I had a limbsaver custom fit to the rifle as well, just something else to consider.
