Well, I finally found one! A couple of weeks ago, I went into my favorite gun shop and discovered that a 6.5X55 Classic had just been traded in. The rifle is mint, and I understand it has been shot 24 times.

The guy that traded it is wealthy and has lots of guns. He recently became interested in Cowboy Action Shooting, and traded for that type of gear.

I have been wanting one of these for, well, since 1994 when they were made! I haven't scoped it yet, but am anxious to get her on the range.

I have a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in the Swedish round and it is my favorite hunting rifle. The 700 should make a great addition to the rack.

Guys, you just never know what might show up at the gun shop!

Isn't it funny how often things work out that way? When you have the money, one can't be found. When the gun money is gone, they're available!

I got lucky on this Classic, everything worked out. If she shoots as good as she looks, I'll be thrilled. As soon as she is glassed up, I'm off to the range.

Good luck on the Sendero. What a classy long range rifle. 8)

Let us know which is the most accurate, the model 70 or model 700. I have been watching for a Remchester in 6.5 x 55 but had to settle for a Kimber sporterized Swede and a Encore barrel in that caliber. The Kimber will shoot less than one inch. I think my model 96 and 38 Swedes are just as accurate but with open sights its hard for me to tell. The TC Encore does about one inch with handloads. I'm sure you and my wife are happy you found the Classic before I did.
Shoot that thing!

I'n anxious to know if the 700 will best the 70 too. The 70 shoots very well, but it took a little "tweaking" to get her to shine. I hope the 700 will be even better.

My son has one of the Kimber '96 sporter conversions. It shoots great and he really loves it. I wish I could find another one of those. I'd buy it in a minute! 8)

I also have the Remington Classic in 6.5x55 and am thrilled with it. I took my moose with it last year in Ontario using the Sierra 160gr. SPSP. It's a hard hitting caliber, yet one that will not turn you into a spastic cripple from the recoil. My only reservation is it has a 1 in 9" twist and doesn't handle the 140gr. bullets as well as I'd like, but other than that it's terrific.
It quite accurate for a sporting rifle, putting most groups into around .7" (5 at 100yds). Best wishes.
