I have a Remington 700 BDL DM stainless in 7mm mag. Shoots great. Love the rifle, hate the stock. Terrible feel, very flimsy, very noisy if you install sling swivels due to the hollow plastic butt. It would be a shame to shoot anything that didn't hear you coming from a mile away. Any suggestions for a replacement? Wood or synthetic is fine. Some of the unfinished, 95% inletted models from Richards microfit don't look too bad. Any experience with them?

I've used several of their stocks and have found them to be all they are advertised and more. The synthetic stocks have never done a thing for me, they are just cold and impersonal in my humble opinion. I glass the action and free float the barrel so I've never had a problem with POI changes. I recommend an oil finish since a user rifle always gets nicks and a little oil rubbed into the wound is all it takes.

Good shooting!

synthetic stocks

My VS Remington came with one of the H-S stocks, hated it, couldn't mount a Harris bi-pod without pulling the front swivel out. Luck having it, a friend had a McMillan that he didn't like the paint on. We made a trade and I had a local stock maker bed the action. Now I'm well pleased!

I have three rifles with HS stocks and I love them - they are strong, sturdy, and not flimsy with vibrations - and I really like the full length aluminum bedding block. You should also look into the McMillans. Those are the only two choices in my book.

Just for a Hoot......try foaming the inner surfaces of the stock with that spray-in stuff. Just might quiet and stiffen it up w/o weighing it down????
