This may have been covered and I missed it, but what is the story on the recall on the new Vaquero? I just got a letter in the mail from Ruger with a shipping label and they want me to send it back for something. I have not even shot it yet. Will I get one also for the flat top Blackhawk, or is this just a vaquero problem?

Thanks and I hope this has not been beaten to death already.

Krag,

If you find out what the recall is about will you post it here so we can all see it, I've heard the same thing but have no idea what is going on. I know one feller who has one and i'm sure he would like to know also.

Thanks a lot......Joe......

Again...Anyone have an update?
Talked to a dealer who berated them as being weaker than a SA colt with even weaker springs. He knew nothing of the recall though.
I would like to purchase two of these. One for 250gr 900fps loads & the other strictly for Blk-Pwder loads.

Lots of guys over on the SASS wire got recall notices, and a few experienced the malfunction. In the first 500 or so new Vaqueros, there is a potential problem with the firing pin sticking in the forward position. At least, that's what I've been told. I stuck with the original frame Vaqueros.

The smaller framed Vaqueros aren't weaker than Colts, they are in between the Colt and the large original Vaquero in strength. Brian Pearce wrote an article giving loads for the new Ruger frame. He pushed it a little harder than a Colt, but not as high pressured as you can load an original Vaquero.

Ruger did install some lighter springs, since that's something that many customers were doing anyway. Unless the internal surfaces are very rough, so that you need strong springs to overcome the drag, there's no reason to go with heavy springs. Strong enough to function, but not strong enough to cause premature wear, is a good level of spring force.
