For you SAA experts, I am told that 3rd. Gen saa's were numbered with the sa in front or following the #'s. I can't remember which is which now. My question is where did the SxxxxxxxA numbers come from and when. Ive looked everywhere on the net for any information. Thanks, Oddjob.

According to Mike Ventrino in his book "Shooting Colt single actions"; First generation were SAxxxxx to 1940/Second generation guns were xxxxxSA till # 74000SA/ Third generation guns started at 80000SA until 99999 was reached then went back to SAxxxxx until it too reached SA99999 in 1994 then they split the S and the A. His book was printed in 1995 and at that time Colt had made over 540,000 SSA's! Pretty popular gun ain't it! Good Shooting. 44 Man

Hi to all,
I'm in need of some help please. A friend of mine has a 1st generation Colt, serial # is in the 18,000s. The ole boy is in financial distress. The revolver has been in the family for quite some time, and he's looking to find a fair market value. If any of you folks could head me in the right direction I'd be greatfull. I'm a predator call collector not a colt collector, I wouldn't know were to start. So I told him I'd post it in a hand gun forum where there might be people that know a lot more and point us in the right direction... I have digital pictures of the gun if that helps, but I dont know how to post them on the forum.
My email addy is..... [email protected]

I thank you for any help... :D Bud
