Hello all, new to the H&R Handi. I just picked up my new 357 Mag Synthetic and looking at the barrel it is marked 357 Mag SB2. I just wondered if they mark all rifle barrels this way. Seems to me that it may confuse someone into thinking that the frame would be an SB2 also.

Thanks for any replies

Yup, been the topic of hundreds of discussions, why 357 and 44 mag barrels are still marked SB2 is a good question and asked a lot, all rifles made after 1987 came on SB2 frames, but they haven't made a factory SB2 357 or 44 mag rifle since 2007, all 357 and 44 mags have come on cast iron SB1 frames since 2008, that's the reason for the marking on the right side of those frames.

can i have the same warning reamed/converted to 454 casull?
The SB1 frame is ductile cast iron, not suitable for high pressure chamberings like 454 Casull. The barrel would be questionable for reboring to .452" from .431", the rebore may not remove all of the old rifling resulting in breaks in the lands, 454 Casull would be fine on an SB2 rifle frame tho, many here have them and 460 S&W rechambered from 45 Colt.
