I've got a yugo sks and i'm looking to put a scope on it and i'm wondering what the best scope mount would be. I see alot of ads for the rear cover mounts and they are low cost. Do they hold zero, or not? it doesn't seem very solid for a scope. If you remove the rear cover for cleaning do you have to rezero the scope every time? I also saw a sniper set up for a sks in shotgun news but it was $140 and I didn't pay that for the gun. thankyou for any advice and insight you may have.

What sized scope would you use also?

Thanks badgerben

Good/better/best for the SKS

Source: The best source for all retro items for SKS's is: D C Engineering, 8633 Southfield Freeway, Detroit MI 48228. Phone 1-800-886-7623 Website www.rifletech.com E-mail [email protected]

They are knowledgeable and helpful, and for most items they have more than one level of product, and they tell you which is which and why it is better. They shoot square, and if you have a question they will explain how to deal with whatever over the 'phone.

DCE has a number of 'scope mounts for the SKS, all mounted on the bolt carrier cover.

This is a logical place for such a mount, being where the 'scope belongs, keeping it out of the way of the ejected brass, and as far a keeping a zero, you have to file the retro bolt carrier cover to fit your gun, which you do as gently as possible, so that it fits a bit tight. Then there is no problem with keeping a zro, in my experience.

DCE also has a number of 'scopes for the SKS, including longer ones that extend over the ejection port and require a deflector for the ejected cases (they have those too of course).

Personally I think 4x is as much as you need for a gun which is of limited accuracy such as the SKS. You have to keep yourself inside of 100 yd, as you may have found out. I have one of the cheap Chinese 'scopes and feel that it is quite adequate.

Enjoy your SKS! Fun gun to shoot, inexpensive to buy, lots of retro parts to fool around with. For a hunting weapon, you just have to work within its limitations. I use mine as a backup, for rain/snow/mud situations.
