I'm about to re-barrel an Browning FN Mauser to 338 mag, not sure which way to go with the barrel.
Shilen or Walther, not sure which is the better barrel?.
The other option is pre- chambered or not.
Think the Shilen thread is a v cut at 12 tpi, would this be suitable?
Many Thanks

Re: Shilen or Walter?

Have had very good luck with shilen, esp. the match grade.. Haven't used a lot of Walther, those I know of who have used them were quite satisfied..

Either one is a fine choice. Harry McGowen also makes one **** of a barrel, and will install it for you as well.

Best of luck with your new .338! Your going to like that chambering.

Stainless LW are are of a tougher SS that is hard to get a smooth throat.
Chrome Moly Shilen are not routinely lapped and have rough bores that Copper foul.

What does it all mean?
CM get LW
SS get Shilen

I have plenty of Shilen CM, and never again.
