Hi. I'm thinking of a 223 in single shot rifle. I've been reading about the CVA Optima elite but haven't heard any first hand experience. Anyone. Also can anyone compare it to the H&R ultra in 223? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I don't own a 223,but I have a 222 that shoots between a 1/4" to 1/2" consistantly. My Optima Elite shoots my 45 70,30 06,243,300 Win mag,and the 222 more consitant than my Handi's did. The felt recoil and muzzleclimb on the Optima Elite is far less than the Handi's with the same caliber's and loads. Digger

You have all of those calibers for the Optima? Well that certainly says alot. I'd like to hear from more Optima shooters before I decide. Thanks Digger.

Oh yea,I forgot that I have the muzzle loader barrel also. I shoot 90 grs. of triple 777 with a 265 hornady, and its recoil is very comftable to the shoulder. These guns have very good recoil pads, and a good non slip sling that comes with them.

I made the switch in my mind to go from Thompson Encore, Contender, G2, NEF/H&R over a year ago once I felt the action of my CVA 243. I have mounted a JP muzzel brake and 16X scope on it so I could see what I was shooting at. I love it but you don't make friends very well with the people sitting next to you at the range and now I just bought a 45-70 barrel for it to replace my H&R 4570. ;D
