I have had success shooting a skunk rigt behind the front sholder with a CB cap. The idea is to put the round in the lungs. If it appears that you missed, and the skunk doesn't react, most often this means the shot was perfect. My experience indicates about a 80% success doing this (I think there will always be a lingering odor) 20% of the time you will still deal with spray, and usualy happens when you're showing your trapping bud "this cool trick"........eh Dan? Can still taste it.
Mallards idea works well as long as hes not the shooter.lol I still remeber the last words said were "OH SH## , RUN !!!!" Even if it does spray and ya dont mind hauling it home , burry it in the groung for about 2 days and most the stink will be gone and you can skin it .
Not that I know of.I never thought skunk essence at a set was a deterent.I've caught a lot of Fox and Coyotes with skunky traps. You don't want your trap to be the attraction at the set.If you do find a way to kill them without them ever spraying I'd like you to ride along in the truck for about 2 1/2 months next fall and kill my skunks.
