recently i acquired a target/varmint forend from Kurt, excellent condition by the way, and it matches my thumbhole stock beautifully. it does not have a sling stud, is there any reason why i shouldnt install it farther up the forend? as opposed to where it is on my standard length forend?

this is going on a 24" bull barrel, it never carried well as it is quite barrel heavy. this longer forend, if i move the stud out closer to the end, may improve the carry.
lucky, the barrel profile fits quite nicely. there looks to be some kind of silicone bedding in the forend...........im going to leave it for now and see how she does.
also is there a method to center the stud other than the obvious?

I always just eyeballed them but I suppose you could take a flexible straight edge and go from the center of the spacer up thru the center of the mounting screw hole. I don't think it matters much how far you mount the sling stud? I am not to sure what the silicon was supposed to do it is not really free floating anything probly more a pain in the butt to remove than any real problem. kurt

Maybe you could forgo the sling stud altogether, and use a sling that loops around the barrel.
