Many of my guns flooded and the wood became blackened in some areas. After some online searching I came across a solution to removing the black water stains from a wood stock. There is a product you can find at Lowe's called Bar Keepers Friend. It contains oxalic acid as the active ingredient. It works very well.

1. Take the powder and mix with water to form a past.
2. Then apply liberally to the affected area.
3. Let it sit 5-6 hours. Rinse off the dried residue.
4. Repeat if necessary.

The black marks should completely disappear. The wood may become slightly lighter in color. However, it is not noticeable once the new finish is applied.
