A friend gave me a box of Speer 225 grain HPSWC and I've been working up a load for them. Has anyone used them for hunting and how did they perform? They seem to have good accuracy and all the ones I recovered expanded very well. I thought I might try them this year for seer and bear.

One of (if not THE) first jacketed handgun bullets produced as reloading components. A game bullet, not a varmint bullet. Its still offered by Speer and they would not keep it in the line if folks did not like it and use it. Usually very accurate. On occasion the core separates from the jacket, but only at the end of a good wound channel. The only caveat is that it is not to be used in loads of under about 800 fps because the jacket may possibly lodge in the bore. You should be using cast or swaged for those loads anyway. Not a problem with the magnum loads it was designed for.
