got it back and it still doesnt run right. The only ammo it will run properly is jacketed ball. I told them it needed the throat lengthened and all they did was polish the bottom of the barrel or so they say. Im going to try some .451 bullets in it and seat them deap looks like it may work but in my opinion it ought to run with the same ammo the rest of my 1911s eat like candy! No more spingfields for this guy!!!

Lloyd: if you have any spare 45 barrels hanging around try one of them in that Springfield and see if she functions any better. If it does then I'm sure it is the barrel and will continue to recommend you get an aftermarket accuracy barrel either installed or install it yourself. I mentioned in one of my previous posts on your first Grrrr post that I have had fabulous results with a Ed Brown drop-in accuracy barrel. Possibly that will work for you too. HTH. Mikey.

might have to try that mikey or just get rid of it. Once a auto fails me i loose faith in it and havent much use for it. It would make a good gun for someone who didnt reload or use cast as factory ball goes through it no problem. Just makes me angry because its a new gun and a guy shouldnt have to buy a new barrel for a new gun.

Lloyd - you know I agree with that last post of yours and as someone who likes his Springfield I am not too dang happy that yours didn't turn out to be what you wanted.

I think in this case I would see which would cost more, a new aftermarket drop in accuracy barrel or a new gun. Only dang problem with a new gun, of any manufacture, is that you have to go through this whole business again - but hopefully without the frustration and problems although that is always the risk with a new gun. I would say that if you like the feel of the Springer and a new barrel cures the problems, go in that direction. Once that pistol begins to tick properly, and without fail - as it should - I think you will be confident with it. Really hth. Mikey.

mikey theres hope for this gun I took it out tonight with lyman 230 round nosed gas checks and the 200 lyman swc sized to .451 and seated a little deaper then i run in my other 1911s but not to deap as to be odd looking and it ran great i shot 300 of each and had only one failure to feed and that may have been a bad load as the brass had a little dent on the mouth that was probably casused by me loading. It shot the 230 into 1 1/4 and the 200 into 2 inches. So the thing may have potential after all. It needs some trigger work as its got about a 5 lb pull. Dont know what to do know i was all set to trade it off for something else but the darn thing had to shoot! I guess ill do the trigger and pound a couple thousand rounds through it and see if it stays reliable and then decide. Once a gun lets me down it takes a good long time to get confidense in it again.

Lloyd: I'm glad you finally got that Springer tickin', although having to seat the bullets deeper than in any of your other 1911s doesn't make me that much happier. But, if you ticked off a couple of hundred with only one ftf then I think you have probably hit the 'sweet spot' for that pistol - but dang, it should go without a hitch with your normal stuff.

She may need a few more hundred or maybe a thousand rounds before she smooths out for ya - in the interim, if you want to lighten that trigger, pull the trigger and make certain the trigger bars are smooth (if you can stone the bar channels that might help a bit as well, and then torque (par'n, bend) the middle finger of the mainspring until you get the trigger where you want her. loaded 500 rounds yesterday and blasted them all up today. There were 5 different swcs two different round nose and one wad cutter. I had one stove pipe with the wad cutter but that was it. I was pretty pleased especially when a couple of the loads went into an inch for 7 shots at 25 and even did it a second time for verification. Ive got to say its probably the most consistantly accurate 1911 ive ever owned. NOTHING went over 2 inches. Guess it may have to stay here after all

Glad to hear that. I have a Springfield Ultra Compact that has been the best handgun i have ever owned, wouldn't trade it for anything. It has been more reliable than my buddies expensive Kimber.

Thats great you fixed it.

The first thing i do on any new or used 45acp i get is to polish the feed ramp to a mirror finish. I haven't had one yet feed my rounds until the ramp is polished then she feeds flawlessly. I even have done the nickle plated finish ramps too. If its a stubborn one you can also scribe a line when the chamber is open to where the end of the barrel is too then i sometimes move the ramp almost to that point making it a better angle so its not so steep. This seems to elimate all my feeding problems with those big soup bowel hollow points too. I haven't had that many problems with my SA its happened more with my Colts they seem to be very ammo finiky. I have seen some barrels throated to the point the case has a buldge on the bottom side at the rear where the material was removed to make it feed correctly too. I have had most of my success with just doing the ramp correctly first.

The bmw has been getting a workout too pal! Getting ready to head out for a ride this morning. The les bauer idea was shelved for now. I would have had to part with my gold cup to do it and i just couldnt do it. Its been the best 1911 ive owned and i hated to sell it and then find out the les bauer wastnt the answer either.

I never had a 45acp that liked anything other than hard ball till i redid the feed ramp so it would feed. Its well worth the trouble to get it right, once its right its awesome to shoot it.

I did throat a commander to finally get it to feed right but it was on the hairy edge of blowing out cases but she never failed to feed but the cases had that little buldge at the rear from the throating. I have seen it before on other 45's when there throated too. The cases were even still reloadable too. Nowadays i'd rather stay away from throating it if i can but its a last option to do if nothing else works.
