I don't have too much to comment yet but I just bought a Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor 45-70.
I am sure I will be addressing issues and just thought I'd open a thread for those interested.

Sounds like you need to get out to the range. I for one is very interested in this rifle and wish I had one.

I once had an H&R Officer's Model, but sold it after a few range sessions & picked up a B-78 .45-70 instead.

I found that the Springfield's long lock time was having a negative effect on my shooting/accuracy.
YMMV, of course.

Just picked up this puppy a couple weeks ago. H&R Springfield Calvary model carbine 45-70 Gov't. Shoots like a dream. Will probably install a Creedmore sight in the near future.

Looking for handloads if anyone has some to share.

Thanks

Jim

I saw a Calvary model and an officers model at a gun show in November. They looked brand new and the guy wanted $595.00 for either one. I still wonder what they are worth in good, fine, excellent - NRA? They were the nicest H&R rifles I've ever seen.

Who knows something about them or
where to find them?

T.T.
