i am still thinking about a 445sm but after my barrel deal fell through and no used 44mag barrels for sale the 445sm project has been put on hold.once a good used barrel comes along i would still like to go ahead and rechamber a barrel.

i do have a question about loading the 445sm.can one just use 44mag dies for reloading the 445sm?i just use 357mag dies for reloading my 357max and i would think it would be about the same deal.just back the dies out some along with the boolit seater plug and you are in there.is this the case?

I don't know what you paid for the barrel that fell thru, I got mine at NEfF on the discount program for $77.00 plus shipping. No fitting fee. I purchase two barrels for the thought of reaming one out when a reamer comes available. As for the dies I am not sure. Bob

I use the 44 mag dies on mine and they work fine. I'm not real happy with the Starline brass though.I'm getting some swelling just ahead of the web on the case, and it measure's up to specs. in the swelled area. The 44 mag brass does'nt swell any at all even with the hottest loads. I read somewhere on some forum that Midway had some bad brass at one time for the 445,and I think I got some of it. But after a few sizeings the problems seem to be going away. Digger

my Hornady titanium-nitrided dies for the .44 mag' will handle the .445'....from what i've measured. take off the depth of the .445 brass in the shellholder and add up the 1.63 inches inside the die and you should be able to handle the supermag'. the dies are not labelled for the supermag', however.

i would not back off the die from the shellholder any more than is absolutely necessary. you want the round to chamber easily and that can become somewhat difficult if you partially size the brass. at least, that's a problem i once ran into with a tightly-chamber Ruger revolver.

good luck,

ss'
