Recently made a trade for a .44 Mag. 10" Contender barrel and the fella threw in a set of RCBS dies for it. I have an old Lee "C" type press and was wondering if the RCBS dies will fit it?

Was also hoping some of you fellas can give me some reccomendations on starting loads to try.....cases, primers, bullets, & powder. Thanks for any help.

Suggestions on handload components for .44

Almost all dies are a standard 7/8-14 thread. They will work fine in your press. As for loads I'm sure most people agree that H-110/W296 is you best powder. They are the same. My pet loads are,

240gr Winchester JHP / 24grs H-110 / Winchester LPP / Any case.
185gr Sierra JHP / 29grs H-110 / Winchester LPP / Any case.
300gr Sierra JFP / 21grs H-110 / Winchester LPP / Any case.
When I say any case, I separate cases by manufacturer and load them in lots. By the way that 185gr load is cooking about 1800fps. These are all top end loads so you will probably want to back off a little and work up. Hope this helps. KN

Thanks KN. I was wondering if H110 would be a good choice or not, seems I was on the right track. I appreciate the info. Thanks.

Just be sure to use a magnum primer. H-110 does not like standard primers. I use the Winchester that are for both std and magnum loads. KN

I shoot a Ruger Redhawk with 200gr Hornady XTP's. Powder load is 28.0 grains H110 and Mag primers. It's great on average sized whitetails inside 100yds.
