Out to 300 yards the 223 will be a great barrel to have. Ammo is cheap and its easy on the shooter. If you think you might want to shoot out a little farther then go with the 22/250. If you reload the cost difference isn't much. KN

www.hodgdon.com has "Youth Loads" (reduced) listed in several calibers using H4895 powder.

Thanks for the response! I am going to a gun show this saturday and there is an encore dealer there that sells and trades barrels. I am interested in the 223 and the 17 remington and will decide saturday if I will trade. My encore barrel is 24" and is 3 months old and shoots great, I just want a varmint gun and have no need for the 270. I put 240 rounds threw it already and it's not even broke in yet! I will let you know about a possible trade! Thanks again!

How much would you want for that 270 barrel?
