I'm considering buying the Encore but I haven't talked to anyone who owns one.
Pehaps someone can let me know what they think.
I'm considering the 280 or 7mm in stainless
I looked at the Bullberry web sight and custom barrels-
Are they worth it?
They recomend 20-22" barrels- is that reasonable?
What about their scope mounts or what is a good mount to use
What trigger pull is reasonable?
Thanks to anyone who has any ideas-

encore

I bought my first gun complete. $550. Stainless in 22-250 with composite stock. I was a lot cheaper than a custom. Since then I have bought 2 more and various barrels from 223 to 300 win mag, even 209x50 black powder. Once you start you can't stop. Just bought a Bullberry 24" in
300 WSM he had in stock.

bad time

Crisco,
Sorry to here about the bad time with Bullberry, I know when I'm by there to drop off slings they are working talking on phone head sets. They need someone taking orders at the front desk. They are months out on orders just like Virgin Valley who are next door. I am only 10 minutes from both, such bad luck.

Prusch, I too had the same questions as you have about a year ago. When I decided to buy an Encore I bought a 209x45. Then I bought a 7mm Rem mag factory barrel from Eds Contenders, now I'm thinking a 12gauge barrel for turkey. I checked with the virgin valley and bullberry for a barrel but they were about 6 months behind. I'm assuming you would be deer hunting with the 7mm. The factory barrels would work perfect for you. Mine came with a very nice trigger, but as Cisco said the trigger can be fixed very easy with Mike Bellms trigger springs etc. Make sure you save yourself enough money to buy a QUALITY scope. Ya go ahead join the rest of us Encore addicts buy the Encore.

I want to thank all or you for your replies-
I've sent two emails to Bullberry this week with no replies-
It sounds like I should open a barrell making business-
With the 7MM mag did you have a barrell brake added?
I'm wondering about recoil?
I'm not a sissy but I used to have a 7MM Weatherby Mag and time on the range was not much fun-
Also thanks for the mention of other places to check prices-
The search continues-

No muzzle brake on the 7mm. Recoil is not to bad but you wouldn't want to shoot at the range all day. If you will be hunting with it once you get zeroed in at the range the recoil won't be a factor. When you shoot at the game you are hunting you don't feel the recoil. One more thing to consider is that Rem 280 is hard to find in factory loads at least in Michigan. Also your selection of stainless barrels is quite limited. I think the 7mm is the smallest caliber avalable with the heavy barrel unless you go shall to a varmit caliber like 22-250 etc. try going to some of the sponser web sites like Eds contenders,D&R or maybe midsouthshooterssupply.

prusch - Ya might check with Virgin Valley on barrels. I've ordered
two from them and got each right at two months from ordering.
Both were ordered in the fall, and that might be a good time, as
most people already have their barrels by then for hunting season.

One barrel was a Shilen and the other Douglas. Both are dead
accurate and very high quality barrels. Steve Stratton will get
ya any length barrel ya want. If I were pullin' the trigger on a
7mm, I'd want at least a 26" barrel, but that's just me.

well I ordered one

I made the plunge
Ordered a 7MM mag- from EABCO in Minnesota-
Went with the TC custom Barrell 26" Tapered and added muzzle break-
(OK so I'm a sissy)
I'm having them rework the action (only $20 when you order the whole rifle) and I'm trying their mount and rings-
They suggested 3 rings-
Now I'll have to start looking a scopes-
Thinking 3X9 Leupold-any comments?
I have to say the gal I talked to there was very helpful and had all the answers-
I was very impressed-Her name was Janell so if you call you might give her a try-
Biggest pain was finding dealer near here who was reasonable on using FFL-
I called 4 dealers and got one at $120- 2 at $100 and one at $50-
Didn't mind $50 but the other guys just lost and potential business from me in future-
Thanks to everyone for the help-
I'll keep you posted as things progress-
Paul
PS stupid question- do the factory stocks come ready to attach swivels for sling?

Well first I must say that I have 6 different Encore barrels. They are all Factory Thompson Barrels and will all shoot Moa groups some even .500 at 100yds. I do not have big money Leupolds setting on them as a matter of fact some have $39.95 NCstar 3-9x40 on them. But you know I did not have to spend any extra money for a VV or any other barrel yet a good old oversize hinge pin and trigger job from Mike Belm and a little load work and I'm in business. So I think you wasted some money and are about to waste some more. Know this is just my opinion so don't be offended........Happy shooting..................

If you go to GunBroker you can search for dealers willing to do transfers by zip code. Some of them list what the fee will be.

Big T
No offence taken-
I checked the gun shops in this area for pricing-
The best price I found on a 7MM in stainless was $550 but he could't give me any idea as when he could get one-
I had another dealer that said he could get one price $575
26" bull barrel
I decided to go with the barrel from the TC custom shop because it was tapered-- rather than the straight TC barrel
frame was $303- barrel $270- $573 for rifle- didn't seem to bad?
I added action job which was $20--
The mounts were $50- seemed reasonable?- I've spent more before-
I will admit the $85 for the muzzle brake was a bit of a streatch- but wanted to try it-
So I really didn't think the rifle cost was too bad
As to the scope--I haven't bought anything yet but I'm not comfortable with a $50 scope-(my personal opinion)-
I spent over a week on line and on phone before I ordered rifle and I have 3 months or so before it all shows up so I have plenty of time to shop scopes-
Thanks for your comments-

Prusch, congrats on the new Encore. Before you spend $50 on a scope you might want to go to Graybeards optic discussion forum and see what response you get there. I think that new Encore will only be as good as the scope sitting on top of it. I think a Nikon Monarch, Leopold VX I or II, or a Bushnell Elite would all be great choices for the new Encore. Good Luck. Rudy

Gregory - Perhaps it's just this old Netscape 4x browser, but
I keep getting an error message with the url you provided.

prusch - Did ya try calling Collectors Edge Guns listed at
old guns.net, phone #414-481-5055? There the listed price
charged is $25.

Scopes

prusch, Cisco is right on the money with the scopes. I also prefer the Leuolod scopes. I have picked up most of them used at local gun dealers- pawn shops. ( 3x9 Vari X II were $150 to $175) I only bought clean with light or no ring marks. I just picked up a Vari X III 2.5 X 10 Matte for $250.
Check the classified at this and other sites as there are scopes all the time and most will make deals and or trades.
Bases I use most are VVCG with Warne or Leo. quick detatch. Rock solid I prefer Burris dual dovetail with signiture ring. These self center the scope and don't leave marks.

Scope-Rings and Mounts

Maybe I screwed up as I ordered rings and mounts from EABCO?
They said they make their own and I can get in silver to match SS on rifle.
Also they drill and tap an xtra set of holes in barrel so 2 additional screws hold base down.
Anyone ever used their mounts?($50 for mount and 3 rings)
Also trying to get silver scope to match SS-
All the stainless and silver may sound a bit flashy but I like the look.
(No I'm not a sissy-boy)
D&R has the 3X9 Nikon Monarch in silver at about $320
They also have the Bushnell Elite 4200 at app the same price-
I don't think the Bushnell comes in silver-
Both sound decent-
I've always been leary of used scopes???????
Any Comments?

Prusch, I don't know anything about the rings and base. I have 2 Nikon Monarchs 3x9 matte mounted on stainless barrels. They are great scopes and they look good too. I have burris zee rings in matte black too.

They overcharged you on the paperwork , If there is a local gunstore that knows you at all they will most likely do it for almost nothing. When you call they arent going to recognize you .
On my rifles I have more confidence in my shot when they have a leupold on top. When you have TOTAL cofidence in your hunting setup I belive your success rate will go up .

Well I see now I did pay too much for the paperwork
Live and learn-
I'm not a regular ay any of the gun shops around here-
I don't know what shops are like around the country but most around me don't cater much to the sports hunter-
They will order firearms and have some knowledge but most have more assualt rifles and small handguns than hunting weapons
I guess they have to make money somehow-
I guess the days of a hunters gun shop are gone

gun shops

You just live in the wrong part of Wis. Up here in central wis we have only hunters gun shops. They sell very little of the assault stuff. I might add they have a real good selection of guns too. Just not enough Encore stuff. It's hard to get all over.

Trigger adjustment

I have been reading a few posts here on this subject and have seen where someone said that you can adjust the trigger wieght on these encores with this Mike Belm spring thing. Where do you get these springs and is it hard to make the adjustment? Can a common man make the adjustments or is it a big job that needs to be done by a gun smith? Oh what is the cost of this project? Thanks :excuseme: :music: :drink4:
