Water season opens Saturday. High waters since last fall has done a number on vegetation growth, so I am not real optimistic on what rat numbers I will find.May have to break down and put in some **** sets to fill in for the rats.
Begging sat also. Got permission to trap 60 minnow and game fish ponds, loaded with rats, mink.... hardly any **** becuase of distemper last ten years. Cross overs between ponds unbelievable.... looks like i can trap off atv.... will fill in after this wkend... good luck all and have a safe one.... OH yea roof is shingled YIPPEE
I ended my **** line the other day with 55 **** 4 skunks 1 coyote. My brother and another freind are coming here tonight threw Sunday, for a few days of duck hunting. You guys up north could maybe send some birds because it's slow right now. We'll get to hang out in the marsh and BS though even if the ducks don't move.
The boy and I went to Fish&Wildlife yesterday and got our permits to trap on the Mississippi. The lady said they had sold more permits this year than in the past. I'm guessing it's because of all the hype about rats, even though there are not a lot by me. Only good part of that is that I notice on the log book alot of them folks were from MN, and IA. So they have to stay on their side of the river and shouldn't bother us. River don't open till the 14th but I got couple creeks I may play on till then.
Mac your skunks are down..... nice bundle of ****, how were sizes? **** population is almost nil up here around Wausau becuase of distemper, its been over ten years now. Geese have stopped flying over and ducks also. Local geese and ducks are going early morn and late evening to feed in grain fields. Lots of geese.
I think most my **** will grade L on up into the XXXXL size. I only had a couple I call pups and I know from the past most of them will grade L. I think the **** here are finally coming back from the distemper but skunk numbers at least for me are down.
My brother just left for home and we had and good 4 days of duck hunting. He was off with his shooting just because he don't put in the time the boy and I do. So he really wasn't hitting, till of course today which was the last day he had here. He usually gets out and shoots some clays to warm up before he comes, but this year he couldn't work that in.
Overall we had a good time and I really enjoy hunting with my brother. The dog was a more jumpy to the gun than I like but retrieve everything I figure she should have. All the walking in the mud with waders got me loosened to hike for some rats. Numbers just don't look good though based on sign seen duck hunting. Even my brother said "What happened to all the rats? ain't seen one swim by the whole time we've hunted."
Keep us all posted on how you guys make out up there with your numbers.
