I seem to have missed buying one of these, i probably would if i knew what it is? What is a trap line dog and what does it do. Is it a real Dog?, if it is i got 14 Labs. 12 are for sale. I saw a ad in Trapper & Predator classified section saying "Airdales are the Breed by which other trapline dogs are measured" My dogs stay in the truck when i check traps for the obvious reason.

My response is purely from reading; hear say. These dogs are used for a variety of purposes including; 1 trailing animals on drags, 2, locating natural scent posts, 3 locating dens and 4, trooling for coyotes and bringing them to the caller / gun. There maybe other uses but these four are the most common ones. Oh, these guys are often caught in the trappers own sets!

Seems that a fellow would need to be doing the trapping 365 or near it to justify and keep one trained.

An Airdale is one of, if not the, largest Terriers. They a not uncommon, boxy snot brown fore and aft with a black blanket, short curly to kinky hiar, about the size of a standard poodle. They are tough customers when trained to be. The guys out here that run corsing hounds on coyotes often use an airy or airy cross as a kill dog. They can be a bit sassy atimes but usually make a pretty good buddy.

When you take your lab along, all those times / places he hikes on are probably good spots for a scent post or scat plus urine set.
