I'm confused too! Maybe what you mean is when an animal is stepping on the trap dog when the trap springs it may flip the animals foot upward throwing the foot out of the way of the closing jaws or resulting in toe tip catches. If this is what you mean, a dogless trap invention, they have already come and gone. Morse Oberto invented the dogless pan assembly about 40 years ago for use on Blake & Lamb traps. Later Oberto sold the patent to Montgomery Trap Co. who manufactured them for several years. Personally, I prefer the dogless traps and wish some company would bring them back again. I still have quite a few of the Oberto #4's that I hang on to for dear life. Ace
