I will be getting ready for a three day camp out in the White Mountains of New Hampshire this afternoon. I'll be carrying my Ruger SBH 5.5" 44 magnum for bear and all other catagories repellent.
One of the issues with carrying a big bore revolver is its size when you go to areas that are more touristy. While in your campsite a good holster on your hip is no big deal, but when one goes to town for a latte' or minature golf or some other activity( Ok I know it ain't 'real camping' to some but this is a mini vacation) the sight of a hogleg may cause some people a bit of distress. So I carry in a home made belt pouch.
I have a Bag master pouch that is just a tad too small for my "bear repellent", so I asked my mother if she could make something. She did. She is very creative and resourceful( something that many young girls need to emulate these days) in creating a multi-pocketed belt pouch that can contain my SBH effectively.
I found that I can draw the gun without too much difficulty and contain other things that are needed when out and about. I find that this pouch is pretty handy when you wear some shorts or sweat pants and a regular holster is out of the question.
