Finally broke down 'n arranged to buy a .45 Colt lever gun.

Cutta deal with a pard out on the left coast fer another Rossi. This one's the carbine. Had a chance to buy a 24" barrel Rossi that wuz NIB, but it had that wierd lil' "safety" gadget on it. Too bad cause I kinda liked the idear of a rifle length gun and the price wuz the same as the used Carbine. But in the end I went with authentic over the "safety! :?

Anyway, this means Ah'm gonna halfta werk up a new load 'n find a different booollit to cast! My odd ball .45 Colt loads that I make with Lymans Maxi Ball ain't gonna cut it in a lever gun on accountta the meplat is too small. 'N Ah got in too late to snag up one of the PRS booollit molds frum LEE. :( Bin thinkin 'bout writin to LEEs president 'n tryin to convince him to make the PRS or similar as a regular production item! I think there'd be a purty good market fer slugs designed specifically with us darksiders in mind. (that's what the PRS mold was, but it was a custom Item....costly!!)

Anyhoo, Ah'm patiently waitin fer delivery of my "new" lever gun! NOT!!!! I'm headin out to the range in the mornin to burn sum powder, by GAWD!! This "off season" is drivin me nutz! :p

Cuts, have you ever tried the 2 grove Lee, or know anyone who has? I know nothing about it other than it's on it's way, in fact, I thought it should have been here already. It'll be my first attempt at casting.

Nope! Never tried ANY .45 other than my Maxi Ball. I've used 255 grainers frum Northeast Bullets for smokeless loads and 230 grainers frum the same outfit. But Remingtons like LOTS of nice gooey lube when being shot with BP so I've stuck with the Maxi. Even the two groove standard style slugs don't carry enuff lube fer a Remmie, without adding a grease cookie sandwich. I suppose I'll have time to experiment with things before the first match this March and see what werks in the rifle. But I kinda wish I'd gone ahead and bought one of the PRS molds when they were still available! I've exchange notes with pards who have used the two groove Lee bullet and it's a very accurate slug. But almost universally the users either add a grease cookie for thier rifle loads or wipe the bore after every stage. They seem to do very good in most revolvers though, providing enuff lube to get through six stages without binding.....except in Remmies!

So.....I'll be experimenting! I may end up having a custom mold built. Lee does it for $150.00 and maybe I can save some time by asking them to run off another batch of PRS custom molds. But I'll have to get permission from the inventor, not a problem Im sure since I helped him in developement (he got the idea for it after seeing my Maxi Ball loads and trying them himself) Another possibility is that I may buy Pigeonroosts experimental top punch that he had made to "hollow point" his Maxi Ball slugs when he was working towards a design.

Been casting the 250 gr Lyman .45LC bullet. Not sure of the number right now but can get it for you. Using it over 6.0 gr of Red Dot.
As a comparison using a 200 gr bullet over 5.0 gr of Red Dot for the RV's. Don't know if this helps but thought it would give you somewhere to start.
p.s. those 250 gr bullets sure use up the lead in the pot fast. Figure 28 of them to the pound.

Here's how you can tell. Them Darksiders squint all the time, they smell funny, and they sometimes have little holes burnt in they clothes.
