my colt started to catch on the half cock notch when you start to shoot it. Some times it will shoot and sometimes it will catch.

Does it have a trigger overtravel adjustment screw? I've seen these adjusted to where the sear will trip but will not allow enough sear movement to clear the hammer notch.

If it doesn't have an overtravel screw or if it's not adjustable then I would suggest a new sear group and possibly a new hammer. Chip McCormick makes a great set-up for 1911s - see if any of our sponsors carry his parts. Mikey.

When you say "catch on the half cock", Do you mean that the hammer falls and catches on the half cock, or that it never gets all the way back to fully cocked??
