Favorite Custom SA Revolver

Since you say you already have several, tell us about them and what your favorite is.

I love my contender, but I really want to get a SA. Since I will turn 45 in March, I think a 45 Ruger Bisley may be in my future and may eventually get it customized.

fav single action

I have a stainless 4 5/8" ruger blackhawk thats had its trigger lightened. It now has a set of simulated stag grips on it and i mounted a 30mm red dot Millet stainless scope on it with weaver mounts.I shoot corbon 300 gr 45 lc +p magnums thru it.Its pretty accurate, easily hitting pie plates at 75 yrds.
I've also got a custom bandolier rig that holds 10 shells for it.

Favorite custom handgun

Mine would have to be the one that sits nearest the front of the safe. That would be my Ruger OMFT 4&5/8ths four digit range converted to .41Special. Then would probably be the .475Linebaugh that sits just behind it I've quit buying handguns and am in the process of getting a few just the way I want them. RKBA! :-D

I've got a Ruger SBH in .44 mag, SS, with a 5" barrel and round trigger guard. The only thing I've done to it is install a lighter set of Wolff Springs. It's a nice carry around camp gun.

BTW - I'm right up the road at Elmendorf.

My favorite SA is not a custom. It's a stainless Vaquero in .45 Colt with a 4-5/8ths barrel. Now, the holster is custom - it'a flap type I designed and had made by a local leather guy. The flap is actually molded to fit the gun so it doesn't have that "wing in the wind" look like the old cavalry type. The muzzle is closed. The woods up here are wet and thick and I don't like the idea of a branch reaching out and cocking the gun. Especially since I have aftermarket springs in there which are alot softer than the original. The rig sits crossdraw style and has two pouches built onto the belt - like those cap pouches of the Civil War except longer with cartridge loops under the flaps - holds two dozen extra rounds. It's pretty much weather and debri proof and a great rig as a hunting back-up.

Well...

I've got two. #1 is my Ruger Vaquero Bisley with 5½" barrel. I removed the Bisley grip frame and replaced it with a nice brass bird's head grip frame that I got from Brownell's. Black Micarta grip panels look kinda like buffalo horn. Fits my hand real well, and shoots like a dream. Had the forcing cone reamed to help with the leading.
#2 is my Colt M1861 percussion, made by Colt. Has an action "set in ice", and, with loads that fill the chamber (there's a .10" Wonder Wad in there to prevent chain-firing) will group with the best of 'em. One drawback...you gotta remember to bring a towel, or the gun and your hand get so slippery you can't hang on to it.

Favorite Single Action

AKBEARHUNTER: My favorite single action handgun is the one I've been looking at and drooling over for about a year now. It's a Cimarron 1873 Army revolver in their original finish. This thing looks so old it's incredible but it is brand new. It has been sold twice and returned within a month each time as both previous buyers opted out of the Cowboy Action Shooting Sports. I have my fingerprints on it and want it bad.

The only other thing I would need to do is find out from Cimarron what they would charge for one of their 'action' jobs, which sets their revolvers up for shooting more of the normal factory loads and reloads rather than just the lower pressure Cowboy loads. Depending on their response, it will either be the one I've drooled on or a new one complete with an action job. And, if that one makes my heart beat fast it's gonna get a brother in the form of a nickled 4 and 3/4 inch with the same enhancements.

I have no intention of hunting with either but I will gladly enjoy a SAA that can handle normal reloads. I guess I've always been a cowboy at heart. Ain't we all. Mikey.

Matched pair of slicked, smoothed, and lightened Colt Single Action Army's in 45LC with 43/4" barrels. I guess what I like about them most is that they are finally mine.

:D For now I would have to say my new Clements .500 has the most of my attention. I have several FA revolvers that are in contention for a close second. Most of you have seen pictures of my Clements converted Bisley from links at other boards. If not you can see pictures at link below.

BTW this is my first post here so Hello everyone.

Its up in the Air, but the TLA takes it.

I have a couple FA's that are probably my favorite hunting handguns for big game, but favorite cusotm single action when considering what a six gun should be would have to be one of my Texas Longhorn Arms, Grovers #5. They are accurate, smooth, tight, and have lots of classic style. hat being said, when the time comes for me to head off to Alaska and Africa, one of my FA's will be coming along.

One of my #5's is off having new giraffe bone stocks being finished for a nice ivory like look but with the strength to handle full house 44 loads.

I can't pass up a question like this without bragging about my "Ultimate 480", Gary Reeder, Bisley Blackhawk. I had him make it in two tone, stanless and blue, satin finnish. 6 inch barrel and Gary's Gunfighter Bisley grip, with rosewood laminated panels. Had little bear tracks put on the cylinder and a bear head on the frame. The cylinder spins either way with the gate open, so it is fast to load and unload. Accurate too.
I really, really like it!!

Well - dont have any custom shooter but my Colt SAA 3rd gen has had some pretty extensive work by Jim Stroh at Alpha precision. New tight chambered cylinder, barrel work and internal tuning and such. I just love it. Shoots just where I points it, even out ther a good way. Can easily hit pie plates at 80 yards off hand. It's smooth as silk and never lets me down.
