Recently I bought some brass from a member here. We made a deal on a small amount of brass for a small amount of money. What I received in the mail, however, was NOT what I was told I as being sold. I wrote back to the seller and had said: (actual quote from my messages)
"All is in good shape BUT.....there are only 25.
You listed it as 35.
Hmmmmm.......
"

Because this wasn't a big money item and not a big deal at all, I really wasn't going to make much out of it. However, the seller wrote back and said that he would tear up my check when it arrived. That was a very nice gesture to which I wasn't going to ask him to do. However, in his very next line after the nice gesture, he made a smart comment alluding to the fact that he did me a favor by shipping before I sent my check (which was HIS choice, not mine) and that, and I quote, "$10 bucks hardly paid for the gas to the PO and back." Again, keep in mind, this was al his choice. Had he felt that this was an inconvenience to him, he shouldn't have offered the sale to me. Nonetheless, I did NOT receive what I was told I was getting.

At that point, I was going to just let it all go and not leave any feedback on the transaction. However, on the day he received my check, he sent a second message. This one was, to me, somewhat snide and smug and I felt was not needed. In one instance, he's offering to give me the brass he sent me for free but on the other hand he tries to rub it in my face without any just cause. Here is the comment:

So is that the plan I tear up your check and you get free brass and shipping OK with me if you need the money that bad and the brass, because i'm not going too be able to retire on the net $4 I made on the deal.

Maybe I'm taking this wrong and defensively....am I??
Again, I was going to just leave things as they were and not leave any feedback but after being treated as if I made the mistake here, I felt it was appropriate to let others know what they might face when dealing with this member in the classifieds. With that I left a negative feedback.

So, here is my issue: I didn't do anything wrong with this transaction but receive some used brass in a lesser quantity than I was told I was buying AND for a price in which I could have bought NEW brass for less or the same price. However, in the end, when I have tried to forewarn other members about this persons dealings I, in turn, have received a negative feedback. I had the feeling that this was going to happen judging by the manner in which this member seemed to be acting, with smug comments etc.

So basically, if one tries to forewarn the other members here about a "bad" deal or "suspicious" seller, you take the risk of getting a negative feedback on your record despite you not doing anything bad in the deal. That just doesn't seem fair.....and here is where the feedback system fails:
I will NEVER leave another negative feedback for anyone (if they so deserve it) because I'm sure I'll get one in return out of spite. By doing this, I cannot forewarn other members here of possible bad deals or exchanges. However, I now have a black mark on my record that was given to me from someone who did not follow through on their side of the deal and sent me a negative feedback just out of plain spite and for no other reason at all.
Doesn't make sense to me......
Now that I think of it, I'll probably never leave any feedback anymore. If the system doesn't work, then why use it? ???

sounds like a guy I dealt with on another site (GB)
took my money order said he sent the brass said the P.O. lost it
then he got it back said if I re-send the funds he would re-ship (not just the postage ALL the money)
this is AFTER he cashed the MO the first time
I filed a complaint they said it wasn't a large enough amount ($35) of money to deal with it
when you look at his reviews he has done this MANY times the same thing (the P.O. lost it)
sucks to be ripped off

This incident wasn't quite that bad. It wasn't a direct rip off or that big of a rip off. He may have or may have not intended to type 25 rather than 35 in his offer of the brass to me. Really, it's such a small amount of money, it doesn't make a difference to me. It was more the fact that he was such a snide jerk to me about the whole thing, that's what really got me mad on top of the fact that he didn't give me what I was supposed be buying.
Now it is possible that if he does this a lot, well then a little bit of money here and there through various exchanges can make up some extra side change and being a small amount of money, most people are willing to let it slide and not leave any negative feedback (as I was going to do before he got smart with me).
One never knows these days: times are getting tough and the economy is going to heck.

It appears that one of the moderators has taken the negative feedbacks off both of our profiles. Thanks to whomever did that. As I stated, I originally wasn't going to leave any feedback anyway so it's as good as it would have been from the start. I'm happy with leaving it as that.

Blackhawker please do not stop using the feedback system...it does work as intended .Bill will get to the bottom of any misdealings and correct your good name if so deserving. Folks need the system and most are smart enough to see thru to the truth of what happened in most deals. Kurt

Blackhawker you hit the nail on the head.Feedback can be real BS Some people view a minor detail rather than contact the person right away they jump the gun and post negative feedback and no one questions it. but right away you are a bad guy I have over 125 positive feedback and have recieved 2 uncalled for negative feedbacks by people who went of half cocked one of which posted negative feedback way after what he called negative feedback but according to the rules one more and I will be banned from the FS section So if any of you want post another negative feedback and that will end it for me go ahead. I have been a loyal supporter of the sight $$$ dollar wise. People who view negative feedback should take into consideration the amount of positive feedback one has and go from there. Enough said Lou

Lou, the only way we know about unsubstantiated feedback is if it's challenged and we're notified of it, it can be removed if warranted, usually with the agreement of both parties.

WOW, this is an old thread. The incident was quite some time ago and was remedied by Greybeard himself.

Ironically, ever since that time, I've become somewhat hesitant to do much trading, buying and/or selling. In all honesty, I've been quite hesitant to even participate in anything here anymore but I do continue to read the threads. This is a great website but I'm sorry to say that this incident and a couple of others where members got too emotional about their side of a story and their need to be heard and to be right has made me into a casual reader rather than an active participant. ::)

Ditto......the crowd isn't what it used to be. I read and write but avoid buying and selling.

Don't let a few bad apples ruin the barrel fellows. This is a great sight and its people like you that make it that way. The people who do the bad deals get ferreted out and usually have to move on once their game is discovered. i haven't made any deals on here lately, but its still a great sight. Worm

On evilbay, If you pay for an item, you cannot get negative feedback. After 30 days and the
seller does not have any proof of shipment, you get a refund. This is usually done thru PayPal.

ANY on-line trading is a risk. It is very irritating when you point out a problem and get nothing
back but crap. Stay with GBO, it is a community, and some individuals fall short of expectations.
The community understands this and will support you. Don't back away because of some jerk.
They will punish themselves far more than we can.

I have never been disappointed trusting GBO members. In general my savings from on-line
bargains has been a hundred times more than my losses.

+1 on this site for trading. I have my one and only negative feedback on the big gun site for posting negative on a seller who sold me something he didn't have! I posted negative on him for this and apparently he didn't like the work "Fraud" too much so he bombed me with negative feedback with a phony story. No way to resolve the problem so like Blackhawker says you have consider the consequences of leaving the appropriate feedback for fear of an unjust retaliation.

You must have got it resolved. You show 0 neg. on your recap. Someone must have listened to and believed you. That's a great resolution to a bad deal.
