We're replacing our over-the-range microwave. I like the looks and construction of the Whirlpool models. Do you know if Whirlpool makes durable and reliable microwaves? Thanks.

Generally, Whirlpool Corp. products are top quality. Trying to keep cost down to stay competitive with GE is very tough, and they've experienced some set backs from time to time, but on the whole their products are very good. 32 years with Whirlpool Corp.

I like the controls of the GE you just punch a number and it runs for that many minutes also has a add 30 sec button for warming up coffee that doesn't overheat it. If your wife cans make sure her pressure cooker will fit on the stove top under the oven.

It really dont matter what brand of micorwave you get as the insides are all the same. most every microwave out there above 1100w use the same Sharp magnetron, transformer, capacitor and blocking diode which is the guts of any unit. The control boards are all made in the same place anymore and all have the same quality... piss poor...

Being in and around the surplus and salvage business I see thousands of microwaves returned to the stores. Each load of surplus or returns will have 20 to 30 microwaves in them and of that 50% of them do not work when we get them. I have found that the major issue with these units are door switches. It seems every unit now uses a plastic holder for the switches that one good hard door slam will move them and cause the unit to stop working.

Bottom line... get which ever brand or model you think looks best... as the insides are all the same and matters not from brand to brand.

Under the counter models seem to last much longer due to the cooling and exhaust fans in them.

wasn t it nice at one time to buy excellent ,good ,fair quality things at one time an know what you were getting..i saw several more new names of scopes this morning ..hi occ was one i think .. had a nice medium price to it..so many times a poor quality product is put out knowing ,,its just a matter of time until the public figures out there junk..then the money source goes on to its next second coming type scope,,or what ever..
i have no knowledge that hi occ fits into that category ..but its why somebody else is gonna find out if they worth having..if time tells they are good i ll buy one of the time tested versions..
