There's been stuff in the news about how the 'occupy' riots and protests are being broken up because of the change in weather. Some have reported that it's dangerous for people to live out in the cold during the winter.

I've been winter camping in Minnesota, and it's really not that bad. You acclimate in about a day or two. Given a little latitude in how you shelter yourself, you could stay outdoors continuously even during an extremely cold winter (-40F for example). The first day is very uncomfortable, though.

I think it's a lot worse when it's really wet than when it's cold out.

I wouldnt count on the winter weather breaking up the large groups (NYC, etc..).. there will be some of them that attrit.. but I seriously doubt it will be the majority of them.. its going to take something other than some snow and some 15 degree days to run them off..

they are being well supplied by different funding sources.. they can afford propane heaters, insulated tents, insulated sleeping bags, cots to get them off the ground, winter coats, etc..

I agree with you.. wet sucks much more than cold.. when you and everything you own is soaked to the core.. and there is no way to get it all dry again.. thats when you'll start seeing people "break down"..

All that really means is they will go back home for a week (do this in shifts), dry out, eat well, etc.. then theyll head back out to the camp site..

Let a couple of those propane heaters set a tent city or two on fire however.. and the game gets changed..

it all really depends on how well (or poorly) they manage themselves.. as to whether or not they can hold out..

if they were here trying that crap, i can guareentee it would be over by the end of this month. i would imagine new york gets pretty chilly as well. a good bout of sub zero weather will put the kyybosch to the nonsense. we will soon see just how committed they are.

My question would be, what exactly do they expect to happen if they do manage to "hold out?" Are we, or maybe the 1 percenters supposed to acquiesce and let them have their way--whatever that might be?
