Am finally sending my Handi in for the Barrel Accessory Program, and am looking a .223 barrel(Part#823 223 Rem., 24" Bull) to have rechambered to .225 Winchester. Was looking for a more power than a .223 and I don't see the .22-250 listed. Thought that they were going to chamber that caliber again. Going to goto the next best thing in a rimmed cartridge.

¿What is the GroupThink on PSI && BoltThrust of this round in a Handi?

I don't see any problem with it being chambered in a handi. All the dimensions of the case is lager than the 223 so you can work the rechamber. As for pressure i think that its close to the 22-250 and they chamber that round. I wouldn't worry about chmabering it.

It showed up on the wish list alot.

If i'm wrong please correct me.

I've been looking at maybe doing one into a .219 Zipper or Donaldson wasp. Same idea let us know if you do it. 8)

The 22-250 Rem is available in the 2005 accessory barrel list(paper, not online), #R03133 for a 22" blued and #R03174 22" stainless. A complete rifle is also available in blued or stainless.

If there is any cartridge the chaps at Winchester would like to forget, it is probably the .225 Winchester. Had it's obituary appeared in the "New Haven Gazette" back in the 1960's, it might have read something like this: "Born in 1964 as a replacement for the .220 Swift, Died a victim of the .22-250."

Better Choice Than .225

I have a 22-250 Rem 700. I believe it's a very good combination of power and accuracy, perhaps the best there is. With the rimmed cartridge you will not be able to control distance off the rifling as well as the 22-250, unless of course you are able to get away with neck only resizing. I doubt that you will be able to in a Handi.

I think it will work very well. I suggest one start with the 22 Hornet, which would already have the rimed case extractor.

Recambering

I rechambered a 22 hornett to a 219 zipper, Had to change ejector
to a 30-30 ejector. Having trouble with brass. I think you have trouble
with ejector with 225 win different size rim. Now I am thinking 223
24" bull barrel ream to to 222 mag. should give little more vol.
or just 22-250. Forget all the cost of reaming and changing ejectors.
just my 2 cents Marv.

If you go with 225, make sure you lay in a good supply of brass. Winchester recently made a batch, it had been unobtainable for about a year, and expensive before that.
(I recall seeing prices around $400/1000 hulls shortly before it disappeared.) Every time they run out, I wonder if it's the end, or if there will be another production run.
