Im not sure if this is the right area to post this under, but i need to get this off my chest.

Today one of my best friends threatened to commit suicide. A few other friends called me and told me to hurry and find him. This began at around 9:30 tonight! I searched for about 30 min. and then saw his dad, who was also looking for his son. We continued to search in differenrt directions and then all of a sudden, I SEE THAT HIS DAD HAS FOUND HIM!!!

While I was searching in a different area of the park, his ex-girlfriend had talked him out of slitting his wrists. She had taken the knife from him, and they were talking. But he was still considering walking out into the street and getting hit by a car. He did this 2 and only missed the cars by less than a foot!

About 15 min. later, they had talked him into getting into the car to come home. All of a sudden two random guys come walking out of the park. We had NO IDEA who they were. We could smell weed and alcohol on the gury. One of the guys crossed the street and cam eover to us. The other stayed back across and watched. He acted like he wanted to sell us some weed, but then said he wasnt comfortable, bc he thought there were some cops there!!!???

So I start backing away but there are about 4 of my friends still standing near him. Me, and friend and a girl all back away, and all of a sudden he truns his back to me, and I SEE HIM GO FOR HIS BACK POCKET!! HE PULLED OUT A GUN ON ALL MY FRIENDS AND SAID "GET ON THE ******* GROUND!!! IF YOU TRY TO RUN OR MOVE ILL SHOOT YOU!!!"

When I first saw the gun coming out his pocket I yelled "HES GOT A GUN" and ran as fast as I could towards my house (The park is only about a mile away). Not only me, but my friend both ran down the road almost getting hit by a car. Then (since about 15 friends were there).....aniother friend comes out of nowhere, and picks us up. He brings us to my house and we call the cops.

Meanwhile, the guys that have the gun steal 3 wallets, but get scared when the girl (that was next to me) starts screaming. Her parents (who were talking to the suicidal guy) realize what is going on and start yelling at the guys with the guns. They get really scared and run. They get in an old, blue car, and drive away (The scary thing is I had talked to the guys earlier looking for my friends THANK GOD I DIDNT GET NEXT TO THEM, I STAYED ABOUT 50 YARDS AWAY, B/C THEY COULDNT KIDNAPPED ME OR WORSE!!)

The cops then came, and showed us a picture of a guy and I was able to identify him immediately. Hopefully they will catch these guys, b/c tonight has changed my life forever.

I dont know if I should have told this story on this board, but all of you seem to really care about kids, children, young adults, the use of guns, and te law, so I felt this incident tonight covered all of those issues.

I would like to say though, that the one mistake I made when doing this was not bringing my parents (prob. my dad) with me. I was drivng by myself, looking for a friend when my dad shouldve been there to help me if anything ever went wrong. Parents, I never thought this would happen to me, and I hope it never does, but PLEASE if your son/daughter ever has a similar situation, PLEASE let them go help. I SERIOUSLY think that If I had not talked to him when I did, he would be dead right now. He was that close to the breaking point. Everyone helps, and just showing concern can help change his decision. Freinds are friends forever, and if I ever had to do this again, I would be right by his side trying to do whatever I could.

Sincerely
Evans

Im sry it is so long, but i had to get it off my chest, and explain the story.

THANX guys!! (Im still shaking and its been about 2 hours since it happened!!) :x

Wow an experience I will never forget...par

Your friend is lucky he has caring friends and parents. Hopefully he can get some help and get thru these tough times. You are lucky too that a bad situation didn't turn into something worse. Anymore a person can never let their guard down in any situation. This is one of those times a person wonders if he had been carrying a weapon if the outcome with the perp could have been different. You are very lucky.

Goose;

Thank God you are not dead..not just a platitude by me..

I mean ..you should get on your knees and THANK GOD...then go about your life trying to heed HIS word..introduce your suicidal friend to God if he doesn't already know him..

Those evil people that approached you to rob you were undoubtedly under a strain for want of drugs themselves ( not that it's an excuse) when they did such a vile thing.

Use this incident to convince your friends that such drugs are an evil, malevolent thing....a good reason to NEVER even consider coming near such poison...

Your are a great friend. My older son had a great circle of friends but unfortunately for him (and us) he did not confide in them his wishes to end his own life. We lost David nine years ago, at the age of 17, and miss him very much. I'm glad your story had a much happier ending. Thanks for sharing.

Gregory, im very sorry to hear about your loss.

My friend is doing much better now but he is a little mad at me. He has been to a few doctors and they have told him to stop seeing his ex-g/f. Well, the ex-G/f wanted to use me to get to him....i finally told her to stop, and sided with my friends parents. I believe the doctors know best, and that she should abide by their wishes. So right now i feel it is best for me to stay out of the issue. His ex-g/f hates me now, but its something ill learn to deal with. I havent talked with my friend in about 2 weeks, but im sure he probably feels the same way right now. Hopefully things will blow over.
